They search the headquarters of Macron's party in the framework of an investigation for possible illegal financing

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

French security forces carried out a series of raids on Wednesday against the headquarters of French President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party and the US consulting firm McKinsey as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in the financing of their electoral campaigns. .

The investigation was opened at the end of October due to accusations about possible irregularities in the accounts linked to the electoral campaign and the alleged favorable treatment of the US company during Macron's presidential campaigns in 2017 and 2022, as reported by the Prosecutor's Office.

Investigators are now focusing on the possibility that Macron illegally profited from the consulting giant, which has been under investigation in France since earlier this year for financial issues.

The Prosecutor's Office has thus confirmed that searches have been carried out at the McKinsey offices in Paris, the French capital, as well as at the Renaissance headquarters and various offices of the party's financing association, according to information from the newspaper 'Liberation'.

The so-called 'McKinsey Affair' stems, to a large extent, from the criticism leveled against the Government for the large sums of money invested in hiring foreign consultants. Advisory spending by foreign companies has increased significantly under the Macron Administration.

Although the consultancy continues to insist that it has complied with its tax obligations in France, various media outlets have revealed that McKinsey has not paid tax in the country for at least a decade.

Prosecutors are now trying to discern whether Macron received support from this company during his presidential campaigns, something that he would not have included in the financial information in this regard.
