The Finnish government presents a bill on the country's entry into NATO

The Finnish Foreign Minister, Pekka Haavisto, presented a bill on the country's entry into NATO on Monday, although he stressed that the Turkish government, which has imposed a series of conditions to withdraw the veto on accession Finnish and Swedish to the Atlantic Alliance, has not yet offered a calendar in this regard.

In a press conference, Haavisto has indicated that with this law Parliament "will be able to start dealing with the decision to join NATO despite the fact that ratification is necessary for all members, of which only Turkey and Hungary are missing" .

Thus, he has informed the Turkish and Hungarian parties of the presentation of this legislation and has emphasized that the future of this measure "will not depend on the fate of the Government", according to information in the newspaper 'Ilta-Sanomat'.

However, he has indicated that he believes that "the government must remain united" and recalled that "a functional government is necessary in times of crisis, which includes negotiations with Turkey".

"We have not received any schedule from the Turkish side. We have addressed security issues in the Baltic Sea and (...) for this reason we are trying to speed up the entry process," he pointed out before indicating that "Turkey's concerns are related to terrorism".

In this sense, he stated that the authorities "hope that the Turkish Parliament will make room to be able to debate the matter as soon as possible."
