The commission of the assault on the Capitol asks to indict Trump on four criminal charges

It is the first time in history that the Legislature asks to impute a former president

MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The special commission of the House of Representatives that investigates the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 has unanimously approved this Monday to request the imputation of former President Donald Trump for three crimes: inciting or aiding an insurrection, obstruction of an official procedure of the Congress, conspiracy to deceive the State and conspiracy to give false testimony.

The commission has voted in a final public session on bringing criminal charges based on a lengthy investigation. However, the commission's final report will not be published until next Wednesday.

The commission is made up of eight members of the House of Representatives -- six of them Democrats -- and investigates the assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters during the protocol confirmation of Joe Biden's victory in the November 2020 elections.

The petition will now be transferred to the Department of Justice, which is also investigating Trump in parallel for his involvement in those incidents, which resulted in the deaths of five people. Four more committed suicide after the events.

The approval of this recommendation does not have specific judicial effects, but it represents a historical milestone because it is the first time that Congress has requested to impute a former president.
