Petro agrees with the ELN on the return of displaced Embera indigenous people to their reservations

MADRID, 4 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced this Saturday that he has closed the first agreement with the National Liberation Army (ELN) in the framework of the negotiations in Caracas, through which the Embera indigenous populations that were displaced by this group will be able to return to their shelters.

"The first point of agreement that we reached with the ELN, in just a week since these talks have been going on, is that the return of the populations displaced by that organization from Embera indigenous territories to their reservations is allowed, with a guarantee of non-repetition and return. ", the president declared, according to 'El Tiempo'.

However, he has pointed out that it is a first pact that must be extended to the rest of the populations. "The return must be possible throughout the national territory for any ethnic group of the population and its mixtures," she pointed out.

As an example, he has taken the Antioquian population of Murindó, in the northeast of the country, where he has stressed that it is necessary to seal an agreement that ceases hostility against the Afro and black population so that they can live in peace.

The talks between the government and the ELN began on November 21 in the Venezuelan capital, with the intention of both parties that the roundtable be established as an "instrument of change."
