Venezuela will support the efforts of the Government of Colombia in its objective of achieving a bilateral ceasefire with the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) according to what has emerged from the bilateral meeting held this Sunday between both leaders.

"Venezuela as a guarantor country will support the Colombian government in its objective to maintain the bilateral cessation and Total Peace", has emerged from the joint statement of both Latin American countries.

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his Colombian counterpart held an extraordinary meeting this Sunday after the complete reopening of the border between the two countries last week.

Thus, Petro has landed at the Maiquetía International Airport, on the outskirts of Caracas, where he has been received by the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, and by the Venezuelan vice president Delcy Rodríguez. Petro has traveled accompanied by the Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Álvaro Leyva.

The meeting, which lasted almost three hours and ended without statements to the press by the leaders, has served to make an "exhaustive review of the fundamental issues of the bilateral relationship," according to the statement published later.

The meeting also discussed progress in the opening of border points between the two countries, which, according to what the authorities have announced, has made it possible to "improve the conditions of Colombian and Venezuelan citizens in the border areas."

Also, both leaders have agreed to jointly promote binational agreements on agricultural, industrial and service issues, as well as the development of infrastructure "with special emphasis on the sustainable development of border areas."

Finally, the creation of a technical commission has been promised to build connectivity projects between the Caribbean Sea and the Colombian Pacific.

"We have a clear path of joint work that will continue to give positive results for our countries, in different areas. Long live the union between Colombia and Venezuela!", the Venezuelan leader has published about the meeting that he describes as "broad and very fruitful". .
