Erdogan announces that the Turkish presidential elections will be on May 14

MADRID, 22 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this Sunday during an act in Brusa that the presidential elections will take place on May 14.

"This spring will be another spring. I think that together, with our youth, we are going to fill the polls in a very different way," Erdogan said during a massive youth meeting, according to the Turkish newspaper 'Hurriyet'.

"We are not going to stop. We are going to work and we will take all our young brothers to the polls. We are going to make the polls resonate. I want to greet all the young people of Bursa (...). We are going to work more and fight more. Thank you to Allah for you, our young brothers, who will accompany us in the elections that will be held on May 14," Erdogan said.

Erdogan also recalled that the voting age was lowered to 25 and then to 18 "because we trust in our youth."

The Turkish president has not mentioned the legislative elections, which must be held on June 18 at the latest, so it seems likely that they will also be brought forward to May 14.
