EMS workers call strike for February 10 in the UK

MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Thousands of emergency health service workers in the UK will participate in a strike called for February 10 in five regions of the country to demand a pay increase.

In addition to doctors, ambulance teams from cities such as London and Yorkshire, among others, are expected to participate, according to information from the Sky News television network.

The strike, which will last six days and begin on Friday of next week, also seeks the Government to review the wages of workers to avoid new strikes, as explained by the UNISON union, one of the largest in the United Kingdom.

Union representatives have used the occasion to call on the government to introduce measures after some 25,000 workers in the British public health emergency services demanded pay increases due to high inflation and a lack of staff.

Strikes in the health sector have led the Government to request the participation of the Army to keep the system running. Thousands of nurses from across the country have joined the protests for the first time in more than a century.

The UK has recently been hit by a wave of strikes and stoppages due to the current economic crisis. In addition, there have also been protests involving airport workers, railway companies, lawyers and postmen, among others.
