Blinken discusses Washington-Beijing relationship with China's incoming foreign minister

MADRID, 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The secretary of the US Department of State, Joe Biden, has analyzed this Sunday in a call with his incoming counterpart in China, Qin Gang, the relationship between Washington and Beijing, amid tensions between the two countries.

"I spoke by phone this morning with the incoming Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Qin Gang, as he leaves Washington to take up his new post. We have discussed the relationship between the US and (...) China and the maintenance of lines open communication", Blinken explained in a message through his official profile on the social network Twitter.

Qin has indicated that Blinken has called him this Sunday to say goodbye, while thanking "several sincere, deep and constructive meetings with him" during his stay in the North American country.

"I hope to continue the close working relations with him for a woman relationship between China and the United States," said the future head of the Foreign Ministry on his profile on the same social network.

Gang, ambassador since July 2021, has replaced Wang Yi in the post, after he became Chinese President Xi Jinping's top foreign policy adviser, replacing veteran Yang Yiechi, who resigned the post at the 72 years.

The new minister, who in the past served as spokesman for this same department, has on occasions distanced himself from Beijing's official line, for example, dispelling fears of a potential war with Taiwan or admitting that China could have done more to prevent Russia invade Ukraine.
