The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has strongly condemned this Saturday the attack on an airfield in the southeast of the Central African Republic (CAR), near the border with South Sudan, in which a member of the security forces died. Moroccan peace.

Guterres recalled that these attacks may constitute war crimes under international law, for which reason he urged the CAR "to spare no effort to identify the perpetrators of this tragedy so that they can be brought to justice quickly." .

The UN Security Council had issued a statement on Friday also condemning the attack "in the strongest terms", stressing that anyone involved in planning, directing or sponsoring the attacks could be punished.

In addition, the members of the Council expressed their full support for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and thanked the nations that contribute troops and peace to this mission.

For his part, the head of MINUSCA has assured that the mission had been adopting a "robust, preventive and proactive stance" to respond to security alerts from civilian communities in the face of continuous threats from armed groups.
