Iberdrola and bp launch the first ultra-fast MCS charger for heavy vehicles in Southern Europe

MADRID, 25 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The sustainable mobility alliance of Iberdrola and bp pulse will launch the first MCS (Megawatt Charging System) charger for heavy electric vehicles in Southern Europe, the joint venture reported.

Specifically, it will be manufactured by the Spanish Power Electronics and will be located in Murcia, in the logistics base of Disfrimur, the company dedicated to the transportation and logistics of goods, and will have a power of more than 1,000 kilowatts (kW).

The firm highlighted that this collaboration agreement has the objective of "reinforcing the purpose of both companies in becoming part of the solution to face the challenges of electrification of heavy vehicles and meet the EU's decarbonization objectives."

MCS chargers are designed specifically for heavy-duty electric vehicles such as trucks and buses, allowing ultra-fast charging of their batteries from 10% to 80% in just about 30 minutes.

The batteries of these new generation vehicles will be between 600 and 1,000 kWh, which is equivalent to between two and three times the energy consumed in a month by a Spanish home. Its high power also allows the range to be extended between 300 and 400 kilometers during the mandatory rest periods according to the European Regulation, which establishes a 45-minute stop every four and a half hours of driving.

The general director of Iberdrola | bp pulse, Pablo Pirles, considered that this milestone represents "the first step towards the electrification of the Mediterranean road freight corridor, allowing long distance travel, a fact that will contribute to reducing emissions in the transport sector."
