6.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Papua New Guinea

MADRID, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale has shaken the region of Papua New Guinea on Wednesday, with no data on material damage or tsunami risk for the moment.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported the landslide, which occurred at 7:36 a.m. on Wednesday Spanish peninsular time (4:36 p.m. local time).

The epicenter is located just over 100 kilometers from the coast on the island of New Britain, in the province of West New Britain. The quake has a depth of almost 600 kilometers.
