UEFA excludes Russia from the draw for the qualifying phase for Euro 2024

The draw will take place on October 9 in Germany, the host of the tournament

MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

UEFA has reported this Tuesday that the Russian Football Federation will not be able to participate in the draw for the qualifying phase for Euro 2024, so they will be excluded from the continental tournament to be played in Germany.

"All Russian national teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee on February 28, 2022, which was further confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022. Therefore, Russia is not included in the draw for the qualifying phase for the UEFA European Championship 2022-24", explained the body this Tuesday in Hvar (Croatia).

The UEFA Executive Committee approved the procedure for the next European qualifying draw, which will take place on October 9 in the German city of Frankfurt. A total of 53 national associations participate in the draw that will distribute the participants in the ten groups -seven groups of five teams and three groups of six teams-.

The participating teams will be divided into the seeding pots, according to the general classification of the UEFA Nations League 2022/23, and will occupy the seven pots that are available. The ten group winners and the ten seconds will qualify for the final phase. Meanwhile, the three remaining places will be decided through the 'play-offs' that will be played in March 2024.

Qualifying will not include hosts Germany, who automatically advance to the finals and therefore do not take part in the draw.
