The US National Archives warned in 2021 of the loss of correspondence between Trump and Kim Jong Un

MADRID, 4 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The National Administration of National Archives of the United States (NARA) alerted in May 2021 the lawyers of former US President Donald Trump about the loss of several letters that the former president and the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, would have sent each other during the Trump Administration.

Specifically, the general counsel of the National Archives and Records Administration, Gary Stern, wrote on May 6, 2021 to former Trump White House lawyers -- Patrick Philbin, Mike Purpura and Scott Gast --, alerting them that the letters that Trump had exchanged with Kim and the letter he received from his predecessor, President Barack Obama, were unaccounted for, CNN has learned.

In addition to the letters from Barack Obama and Kim Jong Un, the National Archives would also have reported the lack of almost 24 boxes of records, which is why Stern requested the help of Trump's former lawyers to ensure that the Archives received "all the presidential records as required by law.

"It is our understanding that approximately two dozen boxes of original presidential records were kept in the White House during President Trump's last year in office and have not been transferred to NARA," Stern said, emphasizing a request from Counsel to the White House, Pat Cipollone, who had requested the return of said documents.

The disappearance of these documents provides further details showing how the US National Archives had been requesting the return of boxes of presidential records before the FBI searched the former president's Florida residence last August for classified documents.

Among the documents that federal agents collected during the raid on the Mar-a-Lago residence on August 9, some confidential files have been found that would even describe the military defenses of a foreign government, including its nuclear capabilities.
