The PSOE proposes a new criminal type of illicit enrichment punishable by up to three years in prison

MADRID, 9 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE wants to take advantage of the reform of the Criminal Code that will put an end to the crime of sedition to classify the crime of "illicit enrichment", which will punish with between six months and three years in prison and with disqualification from public office for between two and seven years that up to five years after leaving their post they increase their assets by more than 250,000 euros and cannot justify it.

With this objective, they have registered an amendment to the bill that they promoted together with Unidas Podemos to, among other things, put an end to the crime of sedition, as explained at a press conference by the spokesman for the Socialist Group in Congress, Patxi López .

López has insisted that this amendment has nothing to do with the crime of embezzlement that ERC proposes to retouch during the processing of this initiative, and that it will not have any effect on those convicted of the fraudulent ERE case in Andalusia.

The socialist leader has assured that they have not negotiated this issue with the Republicans and I have emphasized that the PSOE, like the Penal Code itself, "distinguishes" between "corruption and embezzlement."

In this context, he has indicated that they will speak with those of Gabriel Rufián when they learn of his proposals and, in any case, he has stressed that the Socialists will not accept "any setback" in the fight against corruption and that "any irregular or arbitrary use of the public funds have to be penalized".
