The European Parliament approves the Brussels classification to consider green gas and nuclear investments

The plenary session of the European Parliament approved this Wednesday the decision of the European Commission to include gas and nuclear energy in the classification of the taxonomy regulation that establishes which investments can be considered as sustainable.

The plenary thus corrects the position against adopted in the parliamentary committee and tombs down with 328 votes against, 278 votes in favor and 33 abstentions the report that raised an objection that prevented the Community Executive from applying the taxonomy and required an absolute majority of the Chamber to get ahead.

For the new classification to begin to be applied as of January 2023, it still needs to pass the Council process where the member states have until the next day 11 to present objections.
