"The 'marketplaces' are of great importance in the dynamic electronic commerce and constitute a growing sales channel to access international markets. Icex will continue as before promoting the knowledge and use of these channels to boost the competitiveness and internationalization of companies Spanish", said the CEO of Icex Spain Exportation and Investments, María Peña.

"Amazon will continue to invest to promote the growth of Spanish SMEs, putting at their disposal the tools and training programs, such as Despega, that they require to be successful," he said.

The SMEs that sell on the platform are located in the 17 communities and the two Spanish autonomous cities. Four of them have more than 1,000 small and medium businesses selling on Amazon.

Catalonia is the region with more SMEs selling in this 'marketplace' with more than 3,000 companies, followed by the Community of Madrid (more than 2,750) and the Valencian Community and Andalusia, both with more than 2,000 SMEs.

While the regions that exported the most last year were Catalonia, with more than 200 million euros, followed by the Community of Madrid (more than 150 million euros), the Valencian Community (close to 150 million euros) and Andalusia, with more than 100 million euros.
