Schiff questions that the documents found in the Trump mansion were declassified

MADRID, 14 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The chairman of the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives, Democrat Adam Schiff, stated this Sunday that he has not seen any evidence that the documents seized last Sunday at Donald Trump's mansion in Mar-a-Lago, in Florida, would have been declassified, as the former president maintains.

"We should determine if there was any attempt during the (Trump) presidency to process the declassification process (...). I have not seen any evidence of it nor have they presented any evidence in this regard," Schiff told CBS. .

The US federal police, the FBI, found eleven sets of classified documents that Trump has claimed on the social network he owns, Truth Social, "were declassified."

Fox News picked up a statement from Trump on Friday explaining that "President Trump used to take documents from the Oval Office to his residence, including some classifieds, to prepare for work for the next day." "He had a standing order that documents leaving the Oval Office for delivery to his residence were to be declassified at the time they were removed," he said.

Schiff has indicated this Sunday that the FBI is investigating possible federal crimes. "A former president has no authority to declassify. The idea that 18 months later he can say 'Well, I declassify them retroactively' or 'By taking them home it has the effect of declassifying them' is absurd," he argued.

In addition, Schiff has lashed out at Republican congressmen who have criticized the actions of the Justice Department and the FBI, including calling for their funding to be withdrawn. "The reaction of many Republican colleagues and the former president's entourage attacking the FBI for this and endangering FBI agents represents a new level of irresponsibility," she denounced.

Supporters and supporters of the former president have called a series of mobilizations to protest what happened, and even this Thursday an incident has been recorded at the FBI office in Cincinnati, Ohio.
