Putin will give Russian nationality to foreigners and stateless persons who join the Armed Forces

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has signed this Friday a decree that simplifies the process to grant Russian nationality to all those foreigners and stateless persons who join the Russian Armed Forces in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine.

According to the document, foreigners who sign a contract with the Russian Army for a period of time of at least one year and are injured while participating in military operations for at least six months will obtain citizenship.

Also, women, parents and children of those who die in the act of service may apply for nationality through a simplified procedure, according to the Interfax news agency. When requesting it, foreigners must register their fingerprint.

Applications will be processed in a period not exceeding three months from the date of presentation of the necessary documents, as stated in the decree, which enters into force from the moment of its signature.
