IU affirms that shielding consent is inalienable but sees room for a unitary agreement within the coalition

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The co-spokesperson for Podemos, Pablo Fernández, has once again demanded that the PSOE return to negotiations for the reform of the Law 'only if it is yes' to forge a "unitary" agreement within the Government, and has labeled it "incomprehensible". that the PSOE wants to resort to the votes of PP and Vox to approve the changes that it registered alone in Congress.

Meanwhile, the federal spokesperson for the IU, Sira Rego, has insisted that keeping consent at the center of the regulations is "unavoidable" for its formation, although she has opined that there is room to reach a "broad agreement" within of the coalition

During his usual press conference on Mondays, the leader of Podemos pointed out that the latest survey by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) shows that only 8% of those surveyed believed that this law should be modified, together with the fact that the majority of those consulted believed that the solution would come from more sexual education and protection of victims, two points that are already included in the law.

"This makes it even more incomprehensible that the PSOE seems that with the votes of PP and Vox it wants to modify the law, removing consent at the center of it and returning to the Penal Code of 'the herd'," he launched.

Therefore, he has urged his coalition partner to "sit down to negotiate" with the Ministry of Equality and that the intention of Podemos is for there to be an agreement that establishes a unitary position of the Government.

She has also highlighted that the reform of the Abortion Law and the Trans regulations, approved last week, confirm a new generation of rights for women and the LGTBI collective, which are the result of the mobilization in the street of the feminist movement.

On this point, he has praised the work of the Ministry headed by Irene Montero, which in his opinion has become one of the transformation vectors of the progressive government that "must be valued", with measures that have an impact on millions of people and which, for example, guarantee the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in public health, leave for "incapacitating" menstruation and a 4% VAT reduction for feminine hygiene products.

Some changes that, according to Fernández, have been rejected "as always by the reactive parties", alluding to PP and Vox, who have already rejected regulations such as the LGTBi marriage law in the past.

For her part, the IU spokeswoman stated at a telematic press conference that it is necessary to reach a unitary agreement within the Government on the reform of the Law 'only yes is yes', which is positive and manages to change the paradigm of the sexual relations in Spain by putting consent at the heart of the legislative text.

In this way, Rego has insisted that this fact is a huge advance for women and widens rights, so it is "unavoidable" for IU. However, she has been conciliatory and is optimistic about reaching a consensus with the PSOE on the reform of the regulations.
