Podemos trusts a ruling by the TC against the withdrawal of Alberto Rodríguez from the seat: "it was an outrage and an outrage"

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The state co-spokesperson for Podemos, Pablo Fernández, has assured that they would be happy if the Constitutional Court (TC) admitted the appeal of the former deputy in Congress Alberto Rodríguez against the withdrawal of his seat, maintaining that it was an "outrage" and an "outrage ".

At a press conference at the party's headquarters, the leader of the purple formation has been "cautious" with the decision adopted by the high court, although he has emphasized that the loss of Rodríguez's deputy status was a "true barbarity" .

Moreover, he has said that if the TC gives protection to Rodríguez, it would confirm that Podemos "was right" and that, despite the fact that his position generated controversy at first, the decision of the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet, was "arbitrary and unfair ".

In turn, the second vice president has transferred after attending an informative breakfast of the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, her "enormous affection" towards Rodríguez and that she would be glad if the Constitutional Court agreed with her, since he is a "great person".

At the end of October, Batet informed Rodríguez of the loss of his status as deputy as a result of the Supreme Court's ruling against him and the letters he requested to know the scope of the ruling, given at first that the lawyers at the table understood that his disqualification did not entail paying the fine that commuted the sentence of a month and a half in prison that was imposed on him.

A decision that was highly criticized by the purple formation, which even announced its intention to file a lawsuit against Batet, although it finally declined that option, to leave its entire legal strategy to Rodríguez's defense.

Since then, more than six months have passed and Rodríguez's seat is still vacant, given that the number three of the United We Can candidacy for Tenerife in the last elections did not respond to the communication of the Electoral Board to take over. Previously, the number two resigned to assume the record that Rodríguez left.
