He accuses the Government of "denying" the evidence like Zapatero and says that if the 2002 PGE "does not work", it would be "dramatic" to extend it for 2023

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has warned this Tuesday that Spain is heading for a "deep economic crisis" and has urged the Government of Pedro Sánchez to "rectify" its policies and change the "course". At this point, he has called on the Executive to modify the 2022 Budgets, considering them unrealistic, and prepare those for 2023, adapting them to the "slowdown" that is expected and to the Defense spending that Spain has committed to at the NATO Summit.

"What else has to happen for the Government to dedicate itself to fighting the problems of the Spaniards instead of fighting each other and trying to resist at all costs?" Feijóo asked himself in his speech before the Group's management committees. Popular that has gathered in Congress to prepare the Debate on the State of the Nation that starts next week.

The leader of the opposition has affirmed that the situation in Spain is "very complex" and has underlined that the facts show that the country is heading "increasingly with more intensity towards a deep economic crisis" while the Sánchez government "denies the evidence and look the other way" as José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has said in 2007.

Feijóo has described the Government as "the most regressive", which has stopped talking about energy poverty when electricity has risen 150% in one year. He has also denounced that he continues to refuse to return to citizens through personal income tax "a historical collection due to the effect of inflation", while he maintains 22 ministries and increases advisors, until "exceeding 800".

"No one doubts that the Government is right when it rectifies and it is time for it to rectify in an intense way. And if possible, in a broader, less arrogant, more humble and more effective way," he proclaimed.

Feijóo has pointed out that the Debate of the Nation, which has not been held since 2005, is a time for Sánchez to "reconsider his position and change his policies", starting by modifying the 2022 PGE because they do not respond to the "reality" of the country after the growth forecasts offered by international organizations and the rise in inflation to 10.2%.

Likewise, he has defended "working immediately on the 2023 Budgets", some accounts that, as he has said, have to be "adapted to the great challenges and great threats that the country is experiencing", among them the "galloping" inflation , the "slowdown in economic growth" and the new situation derived from "commitments" with NATO and military spending.

As he stressed, these must be the objectives of the PGE, which cannot be focused on "populist partners" and on "satisfying the demands of the pro-independence parliamentary allies." "If the 2022 Budget no longer works and that is why we propose to update it, it would be dramatic for our country if we did not approve the 2023 Budgets", he declared, to insist that the "weakness" within the Government is one of the "great risks of the Spanish economy". A "RESPONSIBLE" ALTERNATIVE IN THE NATION'S DEBATE

Feijóo has assured that his party will offer a "solid" and "responsible" alternative during the State of the Nation Debate. "Spain can continue to count on the PP to seek a change of course and come to fruition," he said.

In this sense, he has pointed out that his party will continue to be "useful" to citizens because "no one doubts that the Government is right when it rectify". "It's time to rectify it," said Feijóo, who has pointed out that the PP shows much more sense of state and willingness to dialogue than the Government of PSOE and United We Can.

Feijóo has reiterated that "essential" that the Government "change course" and added that in Andalusia the citizens said at the polls "loud and clear that they want another course." In addition, he has pointed out that the surveys "indicate the need or interest of citizens for another course."

"In the PP we are convinced that another course is possible and our crew is prepared to act responsibly in changing Spain's course in favor of the Spaniards", he stated, asking the Popular Group to continue presenting proposals and "marking the north" to the Government, so that they try to ensure that the ship "doesn't leak and doesn't sink".

In addition, the president of the PP has identified the "very powerful people" to whom Sánchez refers with the millions of Spaniards who are "fed up" with his "divided" government, which denies the crisis, does not act against inflation and is dedicated "to resist at any cost".

Feijóo has recognized the success of the NATO Summit but has warned: "Biden is gone, but inflation is still here." In his opinion, "the disturbing international context must have its counterpart at the national level" but "honestly, it does not".

According to the leader of the PP, "after the NATO impasse, the Government has returned to its old ways", with one party "threatening" not to support the other, some members showing the exit door to the partners and ministers dedicating the everyone's resources to "do tourism in the US", alluding to Minister Irene Montero's trip.
