Director of National Security does not believe that the use of tanks in Ukraine is decisive, but it does send a message of unity

MADRID, 26 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The director of the Department of National Security, General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, believes that the number of tanks that the allied countries will send to Ukraine will not be "decisive" on the battlefield, although he has underlined the importance they have to send a message of "unity" in the face of the Russian attack.

Ballesteros has analyzed the geopolitical context in which the war in Ukraine is taking place in a colloquium organized by the Navarra Unit in Madrid and has situated the debate on sending battle tanks in "technological warfare" that is being disputed on Ukrainian soil .

In this sense, although the exact number of vehicles that the allied countries will contribute is not known, he pointed out that the United States is considering sending three dozen Abrams battle tanks, while Germany is considering about 14 'Leopards'.

"I don't think this is decisive," he acknowledged about an operation to which, among other countries, Spain will join by sending a yet to be determined number of tanks.

In any case, he believes that this decision does send a "very important" message to Russia because it shows unity in supporting Ukraine. "The most important aspect is the message that is sent to Putin, we are a pineapple with Ukraine", stressed the National Security adviser to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

In this sense, Ballesteros has explained that the allies are not going to participate in an escalation of the military conflict or allow Ukraine to attack a Russian city with battle tanks, but they do make it clear that the Government of Volodimir Zelensky has the right to "the legitimate defending".

"The message is cohesion, which is where Putin believes that he can end up damaging us," insisted the general, who believes that this unit is the "key" and the "center of gravity" that the Russian president is aware that he must combat .

In addition, he has assumed that the war "can last a long time", although it could reach a status similar to that of "the two Koreas", which has explained that they are at war even though they have a treaty that keeps them at peace.
