Bal denies progress with Arrimadas, but is willing to make way for a third way to lead Ciudadanos

MADRID, 6 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The deputy secretary general for Citizens, Edmundo Bal, sees no progress with the president, Inés Arrimadas, to agree on a unity candidacy from which the future leadership of the 'orange' party will come out, but considers that the solution may be a third way headed by a person who is capable of "exciting" the electorate again.

In Bal's environment they deny that in the meeting that both held on Monday in Congress there were "advances" to form this unitary candidacy that brings together different profiles, also new, in view of the Extraordinary Assembly in mid-January and for which Arrimadas has made a public bet.

The president has advanced that she will present herself to lead the party if the also deputy spokesperson in Congress does not withdraw from the race, but Bal believes that the solution is to find another person. And if he is someone solvent, who is capable of pulling Ciudadanos out of the well and who is exciting, the deputy secretary general himself would withdraw his candidacy, according to the same sources, which also specify that his idea was always to offer himself, but not to apply.

In the same way, they deny that Arrimadas worked to put together this unit list, as she stated on Monday. They insist that the candidacy does not exist and that it is an attempt to stretch the gum. The deputy spokesman rejects, in short, that the unity advocated by Arrimadas is the correct one and his is the wrong one, the same sources say.

In addition, they report that Bal warned Arrimadas that he could not present himself to revalidate his position as head of Ciudadanos because it would reduce the credibility of the refoundation process launched after the debacle in the Andalusian elections in June and with which the formation intends to refloat.

From the re-foundation process, these sources explain that the Executive did not receive the conclusions drawn from surveys and questionnaires completed by party affiliates. Critics of Arrimadas accuse her of not making them public to protect herself in the presidency of the party and that the approved two-headed model seeks to protect her. In case of winning the primaries, which will be held on January 9 and 10, Bal agrees to publish the data in question, the sources explain.

Between the president of Ciudadanos and her 'number two' there are "discrepancies" derived from the different positions regarding various Government laws, such as the Law of 'Only yes is yes', which has generated reductions in sentences for sex offenders and has garnered multiple criticisms, and the 'Trans'.

The sources consulted indicate that Bal reads the laws that are approved and that conflicts take place when Ciudadanos moves away from the PP vote, not when the party votes in favor of PSOE initiatives.
