Aena is awarded the concession of 11 airports in Brazil for 780 million

Aena Desarrollo Internacional S.M.E., a subsidiary wholly owned by Aena, through which it carries out its international activity, has been declared by the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil as the successful bidder for the auction held for the concession, for a period of 30 years with the possibility five more, from 11 Brazilian airports, as reported by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).

Specifically, the award price was 2,450 million Brazilian reals (around 468 million euros), to which must be added the disbursement of another 1,639 million Brazilian reals (312 million euros) in commitments obligatory, for which the total amount of the operation amounts to 4,089 million Brazilian reals (780 million euros).

In this way, this is the largest international operation carried out to date by Aena, and which makes it the manager of the largest network of concessioned airports in Brazil with a network of 17 airports in the country.

The 11 airports awarded accounted for 12% of the Rio country's traffic in 2019 and are those of Congonhas, Campo Grande, Uberlândia, Santarém, Maraba, Montes Claros, Carajás, Altamira, Uberaba, Corumbá and Ponta Porã, being the airport of Congonhas the of highest traffic of the group and the second with more passengers from Brazil.

The management of these airports entails an obligation to pay a variable consideration with a grace period of four years, consisting of a percentage of gross income that increases from 3.23% to 16.15% per year. The signing of the concession contract is scheduled for February 2023.

According to the planning and studies carried out on the necessary investments, an investment of close to 5,000 million Brazilian reais (954.3 million euros) is expected, 73% of which is expected to be made in the first phase of the concession, that is, until 2028.

The president and CEO of Aena, Maurici Lucena, welcomed this operation. "Brazil's potential is indisputable. Its domestic traffic, for example, is 100% recovered," he indicated.

"Despite the hard times we have gone through due to the coronavirus and always with the priority of generating value for public and private shareholders and for workers, we are convinced that the internationalization of Aena is a guarantee for the future", he stressed.
