Two regional presidents and at least 17 mayors defeated on 28M will go on the PSOE lists

Various positions of regional governments and provincial councils are also included.

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE is going to include the regional presidents of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol and La Rioja, Concha Andreu, and also at least 17 mayors on its lists for the Congress of Deputies and the Senate for the July 23 elections; all of them defeated in the regional and municipal elections on May 28.

After the defeat suffered by the Socialists and the anticipated call for generals announced by the Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the PSOE will include numerous positions that have been removed from power, leaders of provincial councils and commanders linked to regional governments that from now he will control the PP.

In addition to Armengol and Andreu, more than fifteen mayors will be on the lists, including those of important cities in the hands of the PSOE until 28M such as Seville, Valladolid, Santiago de Compostela, Jerez de la Frontera, Huelva, Segovia, Guadalajara, Albacete or Alcalá de Henares.

After losing the government of the Balearic Islands, Armengol makes the leap to Congress by running as the head of the list in his community while Pere Joan Pons -- who was number one in 2019 -- will go on to lead the list for the Senate.

Andreu will follow a similar path, who lost his majority in La Rioja to the PP and is now going to lead the Senate list for the community. In any case, the Federal List Commission, which is meeting this Friday, has the last word on the composition of all the candidacies.

The acting mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, will go as number three to the Upper House, after losing the council of the city with the largest population that the PSOE governed. Óscar Puente, mayor of Valladolid, is going to be number one for Congress.

Likewise, the mayor of Santiago de Compostela, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo, will be the first on the list for the Senate for A Coruña, while the mayoress of Jerez, Mamen Sánchez, will occupy second place on the list for the Congress for Cádiz, behind the minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who repeats the lead in this province.

The mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz, who also lost the baton on 28M, will head the Congress list for this province while the president of the Provincial Council, María Eugenia Limón, who also fell for the PP, will head the list to the Senate.

In Madrid, the mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Javier Rodríguez Palacios, is included in the list for Congress as number 11. For the Senate, number two will be Santiago Llorente, acting mayor of Leganés and Valle Luna, of Mejorada de Enmedio.

Several mayors of Castilla La Mancha are also included in the lists for Parliament. The mayor of Guadalajara, Alberto Rojo will be number one in Congress, like that of Albacete, Emilio Sáez, while José Luis Blanco of Azuqueca de Henares, will go as 'two' to the Senate.

In Valencia, the fifth place for the Congress is for Marta Trenzano, who lost the mayoralty of Algemesí, after the last changes made by Ximo Puig after the first proposal of the provincial directorates. In principle, it is not a starting position, but she has a chance of being elected because in the last general elections, held in November 2019, the socialists obtained four deputies for this province.

In addition, the until now mayoress of Segovia, Clara Martín, will be number two in the Lower House and the acting mayor of Briviesca (Burgos), Álvaro Morales, will occupy the same position in his province, replacing Agustín Zamarrón, the deputy oldest in Congress, known for his trademark white beard.

In Soria, the spokesperson for the Soria Provincial Council, Esther Pérez, who the PSOE lost in the municipal elections in favor of the PP, appears as number two in Congress.

The mayoress of Navalmoral de la Mata, Raquel Medina, joins the Senate as number three for Cáceres after not revalidating the government on 28M and Elisa Garrido, acting mayor of Calahorra, will be number one in Congress for La Rioja. In Cantabria, the mayoress of Camargo will be number two on the list for the Senate.

The PSOE also incorporates charges from the provincial councils of Granada and Cádiz on the lists for Parliament. The president of the deputation of Granada, Pepe Entrena, heads the plate to the Senate and the president of the deputation of Cádiz, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix will be the third to the Congress for Cádiz. In addition, the president of the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, Carmela Silva, will head the list for the Upper House.

With fewer chances of being elected, the acting mayor of Palma del Río (Córdoba), Esperanza Caro de la Barrera, occupies number four in Congress, and fifth place goes to Pedro de la Fuente Serrano, both after losing their mayoralties the 28M.

At the regional level, there are several regional government posts that the PSOE lost on 28M that are expected to be included in the general lists. For example, in Zaragoza, Florencio García Madrigal, commissioner for Children, who reports to the Presidency of the Government of Aragon, heads the list.

In this community, the socialist Javier Lambán lost the elections against the former mayor of Zaragoza Jorge Azcón (PP) who will preside over the community after an agreement with Vox.

In Cantabria, where the PSOE was part of the PRC executive of Miguel Ángel Revilla, the Minister of Employment and Social Policies, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, runs as number three to the Senate.

In the Canary Islands, after the defeat of the socialist Ángel Víctor Torres, the regional government also lost, the Deputy Minister of Public Administrations and Transparency, Alicia Álvarez, is number two in Tenerife, behind the Minister of Health, Héctor Gómez.

Also the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Junta de Extremadura, Begoña García Bernal, who will head the PSOE list for the province of Cáceres.

In addition, the regional secretary for Institutional Promotion in the Presidency of the government of Ximo Puig in the Valencian Community, Alfred Boix, leads the list of Valencia to the Senate. In the Balearic Islands, number three in Congress is Milena Herrera, chief of staff of the Ministry of Mobility and Housing.
