SEPRONA agents of the Civil Guard Command in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in collaboration with the Fire Investigation Brigade (BIIF) of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, have investigated a 29-year-old man late this Tuesday. , as the alleged perpetrator of the forest fire that originated in the area called Cortijo de Las Huertas, in the municipality of Tejeda.

The SEPRONA agents began to carry out the first police investigations after the fire started early in the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 25, and reached some 285 hectares of Canary Island pine and broom trees, as reported by the Civil Guard in a press release where he pointed out that the first tasks in this fire were to extinguish and contain it.

However, once they began with the first police investigations, together with the technical eye inspection, which they say "was decisive for the clarification" of the causes, they verified that the alleged perpetrator is a worker for a private company that carries out forestry work for the Council of Gran Canaria.

Likewise, in the first investigations by SEPRONA and the BIIF, it was determined that, at the time the fire started, the operator was together with three colleagues working with brushcutters in an area of ​​dry grass, trying both the person investigated and his colleagues to do " everything possible" to try to put out the flames with two fire extinguishers and the means at their disposal, as well as notifying 112 when the extinction work fails.

Once the emergency services were activated, the Civil Guard primarily carried out preventive security and perimeter work in the affected area, roadblocks and evictions, evacuating some 250 people, taking into account not only the nearby populated areas, but also in which the minors who were staying in the Garañón camp --96 people-- or the Camaretas municipal shelter --30 people-- were affected, who were evicted and escorted by agents to a safe area.

Citizen security personnel from the Las Palmas Command, components of the Traffic Subsector in the work of controlling road closures, USECIC, SEPRONA together with the helicopter of the Fuerteventura Air Unit, which performs the functions of air resources coordination.

Finally, the investigation of the alleged perpetrator of the fire for a crime of forest fire has been carried out, who after giving a statement was released, instructing the corresponding report that will be sent to the Investigating Courts of Arucas (Gran Canaria).
