The Swiss Prosecutor's Office contacts Foreign Affairs to "examine the issue of the immunity of the affected person"

MADRID, 19 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, is the subject of a lawsuit filed during his visit to the Swiss city of Davos to participate in the World Economic Forum, as confirmed by the Swiss Prosecutor's Office, amid accusations of crimes against humanity. humanity during the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip.

Thus, the Swiss Prosecutor's Office has indicated in a statement provided to Europa Press that it "has received a complaint" against the Israeli president, without specifying who the person or organization that filed it was.

"The complaint will now be examined, in line with the usual procedures," he stated, while underlining that "he is in contact" with the Swiss Foreign Ministry "to examine the issue of the immunity of the person concerned."

The lawsuit has been presented about a week after the hearings held at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel for alleged "genocide" within the framework of its offensive, launched after the attacks perpetrated on September 7 October by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Thus, the South African legal team maintained that Israel had committed "genocidal acts" against the Palestinians and stressed that they "are systematic in application and form", while Israel spoke of "gross distortion of reality" and denounced an attempt to deprive the country of its "right to self-defense.

The Israeli Army launched its offensive against the Palestinian enclave after the Hamas attacks, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped. The authorities of the enclave, controlled by the Islamist group, have so far reported more than 24,700 Palestinians dead due to the Israeli offensive, to which 360 deaths are added in operations by the security forces and attacks by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
