The FNMT will compensate the family of a worker who died due to exposure to asbestos with 500,000 euros

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The National Mint and Stamp Factory (FNMT) must compensate the family of a deceased worker, José María M., with 500,202 euros, after his "continuous and constant" exposure to asbestos, according to the ruling of the Social Court No. 12 of Madrid, which was reported by the Opamianto Abogados firm, which represented the plaintiff family.

During his lifetime, José María M. sued the factory for his exposure to asbestos, a lawsuit joined by his heirs, the widow and children of the victim, who will be compensated after the ruling.

José María M. provided his professional services for the Factory from 1978 until his retirement in 2016, where he worked as the first fitter with fiber cement and uralite pipes, causing asbestos inhalation, and thus exposing him to the asbestos present throughout the supply network and sanitation of the FNMT.

In this way, the "continuous and constant" exposure to asbestos caused the worker to suffer from pleural mesothelioma (a cancer that affects the lungs), which was diagnosed in 2018 and caused a "progressive deterioration" of his health, until his death. death in 2022.
