Sánchez and Aragonès meet today for the first time after the investiture with funding and amnesty on the table

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, meet this Thursday in Barcelona, ​​which will be the first meeting between the two after their parties, PSOE and ERC, reached an agreement for the investiture of the socialist leader.

According to sources from Moncloa and the Government, the development of the issues included in the pact signed between both parties will be on the table, such as the Amnesty Law that will benefit those involved in the process, the transfer of Rodalies and the financing of Catalonia.

In this sense, Moncloa sources point out that the issues on the table are known and indicate that together with Sánchez, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, will attend Barcelona.

The meeting also takes place the day after Sánchez confirmed that he will hold several meetings with the leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras and with the former Catalan president and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, who has had outstanding accounts with the Spanish Justice for five years. years. He also said that he prefers that the meetings with Puigdemont take place once the amnesty is approved.

The Government emphasizes that it is a working meeting with a political background and not a mere formalism. Aragonès' priorities include completing the transfer of Rodalies, the "unique" financing of Catalonia and also the resolution of the "political conflict."

This same Wednesday, Aragonès himself stated that in the meeting with Sánchez he will address issues such as the transfer of Rodalies, the improvement of the financing system and will also defend "the independence" of Catalonia.

In any case, in the line that they have been setting, they indicate that they will address issues of interest to both governments with the aim of developing the agreements and concretizing agreements included in the pact.

They consider that once the new central Government is established, it is necessary to develop the agreements and guarantee their compliance, as in the case of the Amnesty Law, which has already been registered in Congress and assigned to the Justice Commission and now faces the period of amendments in which it could suffer some small touch-ups.

Therefore, although the agenda has not yet been revealed, it is foreseeable that they will address issues included in the agreement, such as the forgiveness of the debt with the State worth about 15,000 million euros.

PSOE and ERC also agreed that financing for Catalonia be approved bilaterally, apart from the rest of the autonomous communities, and to establish "the debate on the national recognition of Catalonia" as one of the essential elements of the political conflict.

In this sense, PSOE and ERC mentioned in the agreement "the need for the agreements reached as a political result of the dialogue to be endorsed by citizens, which will make it possible to close a pending issue, contribute to fulfilling a broad, solid and transversal demand, maintained to over time and favor a consensus on the future of Catalonia".

The last formal meeting between Sánchez and Aragonès took place on July 15, 2022 and that day they unblocked the so-called dialogue table between governments that met in Madrid at the end of that month.

The closest exchange occurred at the end of October, when both leaders held a telephone conversation in which they unlocked the final details of the agreement for the amnesty law.
