Ponsatí mocks Llarena's summons: A judge says he wants to talk to me, I don't feel like it

BRUSSELS, March 29 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Junts MEP Clara Ponsatí has mocked the summons that the Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena has made against her, so that she can appear to testify on April 24 accused of disobedience for her participation in the organization of the illegal referendum on April 1 October 2017.

Upon her arrival at the plenary session of the European Parliament, coming from Barcelona, where she was arrested yesterday and released after appearing before a judge, she stated: "A judge told me that he wants to talk to me, I don't particularly want to talk with him. I'll talk about what will happen in the next few days."

The independentista parliamentarian, who has been on the run from justice since October 2017, will participate today in the plenary session of the European Parliament where she plans to denounce her situation in front of the rest of the parliamentarians.

Upon his arrival in Brussels, he has assured that his detention is "illegal" and has thanked the support of other parliamentarians. In Brussels it has been received by Carles Puigdemont and Toni Comin, apart from a dozen parliamentarians including the representatives of ERC, Diana Riba and Jordi Solé, the PNV representative, Izaskun Bilbao, as well as Karima Delli, a French ecologist, or the Irish leftist , Clare Daley.

Ponsatí returned to Spain this Tuesday after living the last five years between Scotland and Belgium, where she has held the position of MEP since 2020, without turning herself in to the authorities despite being prosecuted for a crime of disobedience for the independence referendum on October 1, 2017 and weighs against her an arrest warrant and release.

She was arrested yesterday by the Mossos around 6:07 p.m. in the Barcelona Cathedral square after the press conference she held at the Barcelona Journalists Association. The pro-independence politician identified herself as a MEP and defended her immunity. After 11:00 p.m., the Investigating Court 4 of Barcelona, acting as a guard, released her provisionally and the investigating judge of the Supreme Court (TS) Pablo Llarena summoned her to take a statement as investigated on April 24 at 11:00 a.m.

In statements before the arrival of Ponsatí, the MEP for Citizens, Jordi Cañas, has denounced that Ponsatí takes advantage of the "safe conduct" given to him by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, to be able to go to Spain "put on a show" with the " simulation of an arrest.

Pointing to the accreditation of MEP, Cañas has affirmed that the condition of parliamentarian "does not give impunity" and has stressed that it generates rights and obligations. "The first is to comply with the law and collaborate with justice. Not laugh at it and pretend to be retaliated," said the 'orange' representative.
