Podemos accepts its debacle in Galicia, affirms that it is time to rebuild the party and believes that in Euskadi it will be different

He recognizes that the amnesty has not favored the left and points out that a hypothetical alliance with Sumar would not have changed the result

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos has admitted that the results obtained in the elections in Galicia, where it garnered only 0.26% of the vote, is "eloquent" and assumes that they started from a "very difficult" situation, and that now it is time to "recompose" the party both in Galicia as in the country as a whole.

This was stated by Podemos' Organization Secretary, Pablo Fernández, in a press conference to highlight, however, that the first test for its reconstruction will be Euskadi, where the situation is different given that they do have institutional presence, territorial roots. and a "consolidated" project for years.

During his appearance, Fernández admitted that Podemos needs to reflect and also pointed out that the concentration of votes in the BNG has not been enough to achieve political change, nor would a possible alliance with Sumar have altered the result.

And he has also stated that the prolonged debate on the amnesty for those prosecuted for the 'procés' has also influenced the demotivation of the left-wing electorate.

Fernández has explained that the balance of the Galician elections for Podemos is "clear", being even surpassed by PACMA, although he has justified that they arrived at these elections with a "complicated" situation, where they have commissioned a campaign with a lack of resources and media, in addition to assuming that the Podemos brand was "diluted" after competing for a decade with other denominations, either En Maria and Galicia en Común.

Therefore, Fernández has insisted that they have been "far" from achieving a "valid" and "adequate" result, which must be reversed in the other stages of the new electoral cycle such as the elections in Euskadi and especially the European ones, the great bet of the party to try to rearm.

The leader of the purple party has assumed that Podemos now has to "be able to motivate" and "mobilize" the electorate, given that one of the key issues that he sees in these elections is the "abstention" of the electorate most linked to the left. .

"We have to reflect and we have to get a message right that manages to motivate, that manages to excite and that gets citizens to go to the polls to vote for Podemos," he insisted and added, questioning whether the dispute with Sumar could have depress progressive voters, that a key factor to improve is to "stop talking about themselves", in reference to the internal life of the parties, and propose a discourse focused on the needs of the people.

In turn, the Secretary of Organization of Podemos has regretted that despite the "efforts of the progressive electorate" in the Galician elections, concentrating votes in the BNG, the PP of the "savage cuts", the "deterioration of public services" and "corruption" emerges "reinforced" from this meeting with the polls.

After emphasizing that this is "bad news" in both Spain and Galicia, this useful voting dynamic around the BNG is not enough either and he has argued that the progressive bloc "lacks courage and ambition." What's more, he has stated that talking about the amnesty for six months has not favored the left either and that it is necessary to focus the political message on housing, public transport and reducing food prices.

In the ranks of the party they assumed that they had little chance of obtaining representation, despite the fact that the only positive element in their opinion is the performance of their candidate Isabel Faraldo, who emerges as a reference to try to rebuild the party.
