Pelé asks Neymar to continue with Brazil: "Your legacy is far from coming to an end"

The former player, hospitalized since last week, congratulated 'Ney' for matching his record of 77 goals

MADRID, 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former Brazilian soccer player Pelé sent a message of encouragement and congratulations to Neymar, who equaled his record for Brazil's all-time top scorer (77 goals) in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinal elimination against Croatia and asked him to increase his "legacy" and his international career.

"Unfortunately, it is not a happy day for us, but you will always be a source of inspiration that many want to become. We both know that this is much more than a number. Our greatest duty is to inspire our colleagues, the next generations and all those who love our sport", he wrote on his social networks.

Pelé has been hospitalized in Sao Paulo since Tuesday, November 29, after rejecting treatment for his cancer and a respiratory infection. The Brazilian star, stable according to the latest medical reports, asked Neymar to continue with Brazil and increase that 77 that he bitterly achieved without avoiding the goodbye of Qatar 2022.

"My record was established almost 50 years ago and no one had managed to approach it until now. That gives value to the greatness of his conquest," he said. Neymar was sunk after losing on penalties against Croatia and despite scoring the great goal with which he equalized Pelé in extra time. The PSG man later confessed that he is not "100% sure" if he will play with the 'canarinha' again.

"Your legacy is far from over. Continue to inspire us and I will continue to punch the air with happiness with every goal I score, as I did with all the games in which I saw him on the field," Pelé said, asking him to continue.

"I am 82 years old and, after such a long time, I hope I have inspired you in some way to go this far. I hope your conquest infects the millions of people who follow him to challenge what seems impossible," he finished.
