José Miñones, first licensed in Pharmacy to occupy the position of Minister of Health

MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

José Manuel Miñones Conde has been appointed this Monday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, as the new Minister of Health for the remainder of the legislature, replacing Carolina Darias, who is leaving office to be the PSOE candidate for mayor of The Gran Canarian palms.

In this way, José Miñones will be the first graduate in Pharmacy appointed Minister of Health. Sánchez has highlighted his work as a researcher, his "impeccable" career and his "unwavering commitment to defending the general interest."

He currently held the position of Government delegate in the Autonomous Community of Galicia by Royal Decree 209/2021, of March 30. Born in Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña), on July 17, 1972, he has a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela with an extraordinary award.

From 2005 to 2011 he has been a researcher hired by the regional program 'Parga Pondal'. He is a PhD Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics of the Faculty of Pharmacy at USC (on leave).

From September 2009 to June 2011, he was Councilor for Health, Administrative Reform and New Technologies in the Ames City Council. From June 2015 to March 2021 he has served as Mayor of the Ames City Council. He has also been vice president of the Healthy Cities Network.

He has also been a member of the Mobility and Accessibility Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities (FEMP).
