Italy will bid farewell to Berlusconi on Wednesday with a state funeral in Milan's cathedral

MADRID, 12 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will be fired on Wednesday with a state funeral in Milan's cathedral, where representatives of the country's main political institutions are expected to attend.

Berlusconi, sick with leukaemia, died this Monday at around 9:30 am at the Milan hospital, where he was admitted on Friday after a worsening of his state of health. The coffin has been transferred around noon to his mansion in Arcore, for a funeral chapel prior to the official ceremonies.

The Archdiocese of Milan has confirmed that on Wednesday the Duomo will host the state funeral, presided over by Archbishop Mario Delpini. Among the attendees will be the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, according to sources cited by the AdnKronos news agency.

The Government has also decreed that Wednesday is a day of mourning at the national level, which will mean that the flags will fly at half mast in public buildings in memory of a political figure who has marked recent political history in Italy and who has also had special weight in the business sphere.
