Israel sees the statements of "certain members" of the Government as "immoral" and asks Sánchez to condemn them

MADRID, 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Israel has "strongly" condemned the "immoral" statements aligning itself with the Hamas terrorist group made by "certain members" of the Spanish Government and has asked the acting head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, to condemn them "unequivocally."

In a statement from its Embassy in Madrid, Israel stated that it "strongly condemns the recent statements by some members of the Spanish Government", although it has not singled out any in particular.

Israel considers it "deeply worrying" that while it is mourning the death of more than 1,400 people and the kidnapping of more than 150 civilians by Hamas, "certain elements within the Spanish Government have chosen to align themselves with this terrorism" which it has equated with Islamic State.

"These statements are not only absolutely immoral, but they also endanger the security of the Jewish communities of Spain, exposing them to the risk of a greater number of anti-Semitic incidents and attacks," the diplomatic legation has warned.

Thus, he has called on Sánchez to "unequivocally denounce and condemn these shameful statements." Precisely, the President of the Government reiterated this Monday from Tirana, where he attended a meeting with European and Balkan countries, his condemnation of the "terrorist attack" by Hamas against Israel.

At the same time, Sánchez has recognized "Israel's legitimate right to defend itself within International Humanitarian Law", although he has pointed out that "the protection of civilians is essential as is access to international aid for those who need it, especially in the Gaza Strip".

The Israeli statement comes a day after the Minister of Social Rights and leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, participated in a demonstration in Madrid in support of the Palestinians along with other leaders of her party. Likewise, Belarra also demanded on Saturday to take Israel before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
