Health undertakes to eliminate the veto that a nurse can access senior management positions, according to the CGE

MADRID, 22 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Health, José Manuel Miñones, has promised to the president of the General Nursing Council (CGE), Florentino Pérez Raya, to eliminate the veto that a nurse can access senior management positions for being part of the A2 group of public function.

This was confirmed by the CGE through a statement this Thursday after the meeting held by Miñones and the rest of the leadership of the Ministry of Health with Pérez Raya and part of the Executive Commission of the nursing institution.

According to the information provided by the General Nursing Council, Health has also committed to putting mechanisms in place to expedite the approval of prescription guides and submit new specialties and accreditation and advanced accreditation diplomas to the Continuing Education Commission. in some areas likely to require some competition.

According to the CGE, Miñones has recognized to Pérez Raya and his team the "injustice" that nurses belong to a professional category (the A2 group) of a lower rank than their current academic and professional development, and that it supposes "discrimination and a glass ceiling for Nursing professionals".

Thus, the minister has promised to introduce modifications in those regulations that prevent nurses from occupying certain management or management positions.

"It is appreciated a certain predisposition to address the issues that we have transferred to you, such as the adaptation to the European ratios, the reclassification of group A, the fight against aggression and two very important issues in our eyes such as the Nursing specialties and the prescription nurse. In these two fields important steps can be taken, if there is political will", assured Pérez Raya.

In the field of professional development, the General Nursing Council has transferred to the Ministry the "inaction" that has affected the approved nursing specialties for "years ago", and alternatives "more in line with the times we live in" have been put on the table. such as accreditation diplomas and advanced accreditation in those areas of work for nurses that may require some advanced competence.

The minister has promised to present "urgently" to the Continuing Education Commission of the Ministry of Health the proposals made by the General Nursing Council on this matter and the possible development of new specialties.

On the other hand, Health has assured in the meeting that it hopes to establish "more agile" mechanisms in the approval of the guides that mark the nursing action in the matter of prescription of medicines and sanitary products so that new guides that mark the action of the nurses in addressing certain pathologies, as is already the case with diabetes, wounds, arterial hypertension or ostomies, among others.

Regarding the lack of nurses in Spain, the president of the CGE has insisted that "it is necessary to carry out a complete report on human resources in the National Health System to determine how many nurses are missing in Spain (more than 100,000 according to the CGE) and what professional profiles are needed".
