Germany confirms the rebound in the CPI in June to 6.4%

The consumer price index (CPI) in Germany stood at 6.4% in June, which represents a rise of three tenths above the data for May, as confirmed on Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

In the case of the harmonized inflation rate, used by Eurostat in its calculations, the data for June has rebounded to 6.8%.

"The inflation rate rose slightly again after falling for three months in a row," said Ruth Brand, president of the Federal Statistical Office, noting that food remained the biggest driver of inflation, as well as noting the base effect. due to the relief measures implemented by the Federal Government in 2022, including the 9-euro ticket for public transport and the fuel discount.

The rise in prices observed in June in Germany reflects the 3% year-on-year increase in energy, compared to 2.6% in May, while food registered an increase of 13.7%, below 14.9% of the previous month.

Thus, excluding energy prices, inflation stood at 6.7% in June, while leaving energy and food prices out of the calculation, underlying inflation was 5.8%, compared to to 5.4% in May.

On the other hand, in the month of June the prices of goods rose by 7.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, while services became more expensive by 5.3%.
