Feijóo is open to amending his plan to dissolve parties in the amnesty law to limit it to "very aggravated" cases

He justifies his proposal in comparative law, believes that they have lacked pedagogy and says that they are not pursuing ideas but crimes

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has justified his proposal to dissolve organizations that promote illegal referendums or declare independence in comparative law, but has expressed his willingness to discuss this matter in Parliament and be able to amend it during the processing of the amnesty law to limit it to "very aggravated" cases.

"This is a proposal that is going to be debated in the Chambers and we are willing to see the amendments that are presented. But well, we understand that the State must be strengthened given that at this moment the State is left without any type of barrier to protect the integrity of the Spanish nation," Feijóo declared in an interview on Onda Cero, which was reported by Europa Press.

When asked about the fact that this PP proposal has been unanimously criticized by all the media and if this leads the party to reflect, Feijóo has recognized that his party has lacked "pedagogy" with this issue and which assumes that "a question of this type needs a more detailed explanation".

After recalling that in his electoral program and in his investiture speech he proposed classifying the crime of illegal referendum although he did not talk about the criminal offense related to dissolving parties, he pointed out that the PP has had "good jurists" who have studied "comparative law." , for example German law, where this crime appears clearly contemplated".

The leader of the PP has indicated that since 2012 "political parties can incur causes of dissolution" and added that "there are 35 causes of dissolution of political parties." In his opinion, what it is about is "strengthening the State" and "democracy."

In any case, he has said that "it can be discussed" whether they should first "suspend that political party and only in very aggravated cases propose dissolution", thus opening up to debate this matter via amendment in the parliamentary procedure.

The head of the opposition has insisted that the amendment to the entire PP - which will be voted on this Wednesday in the Plenary Session of Congress - seeks to strengthen the State, democracy and the Constitution.

In this sense, he stressed that "ideas are not pursued" but rather "crimes are pursued", which is why he asked why some parties are worried if they do not plan to commit them. "We are clear that the integrity of the nation is not put up for auction and that those who commit crimes must be judged. There is no one in Spain who is above the laws and equality before basic law," he indicated.

BELIEVES THAT THE PP SHOULD HAVE THIS DEBATE AFTER THE SEDITION IS ELIMINATED

Feijóo has reiterated that the PP is not going to facilitate impunity for people who have committed crimes against the integrity of the country in exchange for nothing. "If we accepted it, we would join Sánchez's party," he said.

Feijóo recalled that Pedro Sánchez in 2019 "said that the crime of illegal referendum had to be classified", something with which the PP agreed then and now, insisting that with his plan "ideas are not pursued", therefore which no party in Spain "should be worried about."

The leader of the PP has explained that since 2012, not only natural persons but also legal entities, such as a public administration or a party, can be convicted for carrying out this type of crimes.

"But I reiterate, this is a proposal from jurists who have assessed these assumptions in comparative law and we are available to see if they are amended, if they are modified, if the penalties are reduced," he said, to make it clear that the PP believes that they have to have this debate because in Spain "the crime of sedition no longer exists." In his opinion, "given the situation in which Spain lives and the history of recent years, it is very convenient to recover it and tighten again the embezzlement of public funds."
