Gareth Southgate's men thrash led by Marcus Rashford and meet Senegal in the round of 16 of the World Cup

MADRID, 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The England team will face Senegal in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar after securing first place in Group B after winning this Tuesday, led by Marcus Rashford, without excessive problems by 0-3 to a downcast Wales and who left through the back door of the date.

The 'Dragons' needed to beat their rival to have any chance of qualifying for the crosses, but they only seemed to have a risky intention to do so when they conceded the first two goals in the space of just over a minute.

With the sad game that has characterized them in this second World Cup in their history, especially in the first 45 minutes, Robert Page's team could not worry Gareth Southgate's men too much, always dominant and who were able to reserve energy for the duel against the African champion.

The first half was clearly for the continental runner-up, who did some rotation to secure first place without having to rely on any other result. England dominated from start to finish and Wales, in another game with Gareth Bale, who only played a part, 'disappeared', could barely get close to Jordan Pickford's area, except with a high shot from Joe Allen in the final minutes.

The rest, although it wasn't too much either, was the product of the greater intensity and drive of the 'Three Lions', whose best opportunity was at the beginning through Marcus Rashford, one of the novelties in the eleven. The Manchester United forward received a great pass from Harry Kane, but Ward blocked very well in the one-on-one.

From then on, despite an almost overwhelming dominance, England didn't generate much more until the break, although Phil Foden sent a shot high after a great team move and the active and motivated Rashford missed with his Chilean kick.

After going through the locker room, and aware of the victory of the United States against Iran, a more ambitious Wales was expected in search of victory, although they returned to the pitch without Bale. Besides, his hopes were over in just over a minute. Rashford executed a direct free kick to perfection, and then a mistake by Davies allowed Foden to drive a fine cross from Kane into the net.

The Welsh team had no choice but to stretch a little more and lived their 'best' moments, with a sharp cross shot from James and then a good reflex save from Pickford to deflect a shot from Moore that Maguire had deflected with his head. Southgate, with the game already on track, began thinking about Senegal and withdrew Kane, Rice and Walker.

Wales tried with the game already more open, but could not help but say goodbye to the World Cup without being able to score a goal on play. In the final stretch, Rashford closed his great night with 0-3, Stones was able to make the fourth and Ward avoided a major English rout with a couple of merit interventions.
