Pedro Rocha, elected new president of the RFEF

MADRID, 26 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Pedro Rocha has been proclaimed this Friday as the new president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a position for which he was the only candidate and after having received the support of the majority of the assembly members of this institution that governs Spanish football, according to The federal entity confirmed this Friday.

The RFEF recalled that the agreement has been made by the Electoral Commission, meeting this Friday, "based on the calendar that was established for this procedure", and that, following the ruling of the Government's new Electoral Order, "it has proceeded to the direct proclamation of the candidate who, immediately, will become president of this entity."

The Extremaduran leader was the only one of the candidates who had been able to present the necessary number of endorsements, a total of 107, which had been considered valid last Monday by the Electoral Commission itself after dismissing the appeal presented to the Administrative Court of Sports ( TAD) by Miguel Galán, president of CENAFE.

In this way, there will be no need for the elections scheduled for next May 6 to be held and now it should be Rocha who assumes command of the RFEF until there is a new electoral process after the summer and the Olympic Games, with a new Assembly and for a term of four years.

The man from Extremadura was named president of the Management Committee of the body that was formed after the resignation of Luis Rubiales, already provisionally suspended by FIFA at the time and permanently disqualified weeks later for his kiss with Jenni Hermoso after the World Cup final, and was in charge of this organization until early April.

However, now it remains to be seen what role he will play at the head of the RFEF since the Higher Sports Council (CSD) decided this Thursday to form a Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission to oversee the entity to "correct the serious situation it is going through." and so that the entity can begin a stage of regeneration under a climate of stability and institutionality." However, FIFA and UEFA warned that they will analyze whether this decision cannot be considered "undue interference" by the Government.

Furthermore, the CSD Board of Directors must still decide whether to sanction Rocha in any way after the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) opened a file against him regarding possible very serious infractions related to excess of functions on his part and that of the rest of the members. of its Management Commission, such as the renewal of the men's national coach Luis de la Fuente. In this sense, the RFEF was critical of the CSD and asserted that this commission "always" acted "in accordance with the law and in the exercise of its powers."

Likewise, the Extremaduran leader has to resolve his connection with 'Operation Brody', which investigates a possible corruption plot in the RFEF during the Luis Rubiales era and where he went from being a witness to being investigated after testifying before the judge.

In any case, Rocha himself assured that he was going to "challenge" the TAD resolution for being "completely surprising and alien to all logic and legal sense" and his legal team stressed last week that they would not continue "without having formal proof of their procedural situation".
