CSIF foresees a large influx on the last day of voting by mail in offices with "sufficient means"

MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesperson for the CSIF union in Correos, Elena Fernández, has indicated that this Thursday, in which the term to be able to vote by mail in the general elections ends, "a large public" is expected in the offices, which have "all the means sufficient" to respond.

Fernández has transferred that "to this day yes" that there are "all sufficient means". "Or so we have verified it with all our delegates distributed throughout the Spanish territory", he explained in statements to RNE, collected by Europa Press.

For this election date, in the middle of the summer holidays, the record for requests to vote by mail has been broken, with a total of 2.6 million requests. And to face the increase in workload, Correos has carried out more than 21,349 reinforcement contracts.

The CSIF spokesperson has stressed that "in principle" "all" the documentation has been delivered to those who requested to vote by mail, although she has continued to point out that there are still "many people" who have to pick it up at the offices, since the postmen have not located them at the address they indicated to receive it.

Likewise, it has emphasized that many people were unaware that it was possible to reissue the ballots, that is, to receive them at another address other than the one initially stated in the application.

Fernández has reiterated CSIF's request to Correos to maintain "at least" 60% of the reinforcement contracts after the elections, to unblock all other matters (notifications, certificates, packages and ordinary mail) that have been left in the background due to the high demand for voting by mail.

"They have been unparalleled, unprecedented general elections", in which the employees of the Post Office have made an "extra effort for and for the citizenry" by postponing their vacations and staying to work, he has valued. "That is why public services are so important and even more so in situations like this," stressed the union spokesperson.

The Post offices will remain open this Thursday until all the people who are waiting in line to cast their vote are served, ensuring that no citizen who wishes to do so will be left without voting by mail, the public company reported yesterday.
