Carmona (CGPJ) estimates that there have been more than 4,000 telematic bracelets imposed on abusers, a "very successful" tool

MADRID, 25 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence, of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Ángeles Carmona, has estimated the telematic control bracelets imposed on abusers at more than 4,000, in an interview with Europa Press.

In this sense, he has indicated that this device for monitoring protection orders is a tool that has turned out to be "very successful" and has specified that it is imposed by judges, but is managed by the Ministry of Equality from the Government Delegation against gender violence, with whom he stressed that they will "always" be "willing to collaborate" to "continue advancing in the fight against sexist violence" and that this resource "increases as it has been doing."

In total, a few days before the end of 2023, 55 women victims of sexist violence have been counted this year, six more than in all of 2022 and 1,237 since 2003, when data began to be collected. "This is an absolutely intolerable figure in any case, but it also exceeds the murder figures of previous years. And in that sense, we are worried," he added.

In this sense, he explained that the observatory will analyze each murder "one by one" to see if they can propose "some measure" to "prevent" and "ensure" that there are no victims of sexist violence. In any case, he has asked all institutions not to fall "into discouragement" and to continue working "with courage and a spirit of self-criticism."

In addition, she has once again requested that the State Pact against Gender Violence be reissued, "that coordination measures and support and accompaniment measures be put in place for victims and that, of course, there be a political consensus again." In this sense, he stressed that "the State is responsible for the suffering of families, of women who are victims and of children."

Just as the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, recently did, she has also appealed to those around victims of gender violence to report. "These crimes are public crimes, prosecutable ex officio and anyone can report them. Therefore, that involvement and support that this woman needs, that protection network that she needs in her family members and those closest to her, is very important for her to recognize herself as a victim and for her to tell what is happening to her," he added.

Precisely, the head of the Equality portfolio reported a few days ago that her Ministry will carry out an awareness campaign focused on the victims' environment. Regarding this, Carmona has pointed out that awareness campaigns "are very useful." "Each of us with a single call can save a life," she stressed.

Regarding the complaint, he has also stated that it is "very important" so that, on the one hand, "there is no impunity" and, on the other, to implement the protection mechanism "in its entirety." "We do not want there to be abusers who think that they will not receive all the action of justice," he stressed.

On the other hand, he pointed out that during 2023, gender violence has affected women in a "disproportionate" way, as has happened in previous years. "The number of murders of men at the hands of their partners, men and women, is very, very, very lower. That is, gender violence, sexist violence, disproportionately affects women," she stated. .

Finally, regarding sexual violence, he has highlighted that it is necessary to put in place "all possible means" so that minors do not suffer it and has indicated that the observatory has detected that this violent act "normally" comes from "their own familiar surroundings".

"That is why we understand that harassment prevention protocols in educational centers have to work," he assured, adding that "there must be specialized training for judges, especially for these execrable crimes."
