From his party they prefer "not to go into details" regarding a possible leukemia

MADRID, 6 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former Prime Minister of Italy and leader of the Forza Italia formation, Silvio Berlusconi, admitted the day before to an intensive care unit of a hospital in the city of Milan, has spent a "quiet" first night and in "stable conditions". .

Although for the moment the medical authorities have not updated Berlusconi's state of health, his party mate and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, has stated that the former prime minister is stable. A new balance is expected to be released throughout the morning.

According to a statement from Forza Italia, Tajani and other colleagues have spoken by telephone with Berlusconi, who has asked them not to neglect their tasks, because "the country needs them." The Foreign Minister, as well as the leader of the group in the Chamber, Paolo Barelli, among others, have wished him a speedy recovery.

Later, before the microphones of the RTL 102.5 station, Barelli assured that the former prime minister was facing an infection "from something he already had", and that he had to be hospitalized to undergo tests. "In the next few hours they will inform us of the evolution," he explained.

Questioned by the rumors circulating that Berlusconi might have leukemia, Barelli has preferred "not to go into specific details" and has asked to avoid spreading this type of information, and to respect and show concern for Berlusconi, a politician "who leaves his mark with his activity ".

The former Italian prime minister and leader of Fuerza Italia is admitted to the San Raffaele Hospital, where he was already tested on Wednesday for problems apparently derived from a respiratory infection, reports the AdnKronos agency.

Berlusconi, 86, was hospitalized between March 27 and 30 and, upon leaving the medical center, declined to make statements to the press. He had already been hospitalized in this same center on other occasions, the last one in January 2022 due to a urinary tract infection.

Despite his age and the various legal cases that have been pending for years, Berlusconi remains a popular figure in Italy. In fact, in the last elections he was able to hold an elected position as a senator again and his party is part of the current government coalition, headed by Giorgia Meloni.
