Zelensky proposes to the Ukrainian Parliament to extend martial law and general mobilization for 90 days

The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has registered in the Parliament --the Verkhovna Rada-- two legislative projects to extend for another 90 days the state of martial law and the general mobilization of the population when more than eight months have elapsed since Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of the war.

Zelenski has proposed a new extension after the one approved on August 15 and which ends on November 21. Parliament is expected to approve without any opposition, as it has been doing, the Government's demands.

With the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine announced on February 24 by President Putin, that same day Zelensky invoked martial law, which was initially scheduled only until March 26. However, the events and the evolution of the war have been extending the deadlines.

Under martial law, among other things, the government of President Zelenski has prohibited the political activity of fifteen parties, considering that they were pro-Russian and defended the invasion of Ukraine.

With the mobilization law, Ukraine has banned all men between the ages of 18 and 60 who are eligible to be recruited and go to the front from leaving the country. The Ministry of Defense has announced that they will not even be able to leave the region in which they have their habitual residence without informing the Armed Forces.
