Zelenski warns Russia that its troops will be corralled in Jerson

MADRID, 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has warned Russian authorities that his troops in Jerson, one of the territories annexed by Russia, will be cordoned off by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

As detailed by the Ukrainian president in an interview for 'Corriere della Sera', Russia still does not control the region to the point of having the confidence to withdraw its troops from the place, but he has warned that if they do not and Ukraine is successful in their counteroffensive, "they won't have a chance to get out."

Zelensky has spoken openly about the possibilities that Ukraine has to effectively retake control of the region, emphasizing that kyiv cannot ignore the cost of human lives that the operation entails.

According to him, the campaign is complex due to the "price of people", something that, however, Moscow does not notice. "(For Russia) no matter how many people die... for us it's very important, we can't just push people to go there and die," he said.

However, Zelenski’s words contrast with the discourse disseminated by pro-Russian authorities in Jerson, which assert that Russia accounts for control of the area and that Ukrainian counter-offensives are increasingly less frequent.

"There is much less shelling than usual or ten days ago. In general, the situation seems stable," said the governor of Kherson imposed by Russia, Vladimir Saldo, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
