Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to visit Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the coming months, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

The sources consulted by the aforementioned newspaper indicate that Xi wants to play a more active role to end the conflict in Ukraine, which this week marks one year since Russian troops invaded the country under Putin's mandate.

A meeting between the two leaders would be a boost for peace talks, as well as the moment to reiterate the call to avoid the use of nuclear weapons, although this information was published hours after Putin announced the suspension of Moscow's participation. in the New Start agreement, the last pact signed between Russia and the United States for the reduction and control of nuclear weapons.

However, at the moment the details of the meeting are unknown, since the preparations are in an initial phase of it. Despite this, the sources consulted by the American newspaper suggest that the visit could take place in April or May, when Russia celebrates the Russian victory in World War II.

This weekend the United States warned that China is studying the possibility of supplying arms and ammunition to Russia. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, explained in an interview with CBS that China already provides "non-lethal support" to Russia, but the latest information available to Washington suggests that it could provide "lethal support", which which could have "serious consequences".

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, sent a warning message to China on Monday, assuring that the delivery of arms to Russia would be crossing a "red line" in relations.
