UK says Putin 'failed to come up with practical measures' on 'stalemate' of Russian troops in Ukraine

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United Kingdom Intelligence services have affirmed this Wednesday that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, maintained a "bellicose tone" in his speech on Tuesday before Parliament, although he stressed that "he did not present any practical measure to alleviate the impasse suffered by Russia on the battlefield" in Ukraine.

"Putin continues to present a contradictory narrative about an existential struggle while insisting that in Russia everything is going well and as planned. This makes both messages ineffective," they said, before stressing that the president "made it clear that he intends to continue " with the invasion of Ukraine, according to a series of messages published by the British Ministry of Defense on its account on the social network Twitter.

During his speech, Putin accused the West of "being to blame" for the war in Ukraine and stressed that Moscow is only "using force to end" a war that began almost a year ago, while insisting that the defeat of Russian troops on the battlefield is "impossible."

On the other hand, he announced the suspension of Russian participation in the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), the last pact signed with the United States for the reduction and control of nuclear weapons, and indicated that Russia "must be prepared to carry out tests nuclear weapons if the United States carries them out first.
