UK Intelligence estimates Russia has suffered between 40,000 and 60,000 deaths in Ukraine

MADRID, 17 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Armed Forces have lost between 40,000 and 60,000 soldiers since the start of the invasion in Ukraine, according to estimates by the UK Intelligence services, which put the total number of casualties in Russian troops at between 175,000 and 200,000. , including also the wounded.

The figure, which would also take into account Moscow's allied paramilitary forces, has increased "significantly" since September 2022, coinciding with the partial mobilization decreed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and which involved the recruitment of some 300,000 troops. .

The Ukrainian Armed Forces offer a considerably higher number of casualties on the Russian side -more than 140,000, according to their official count-, while Russia remains silent about the direct effects of a conflict that is about to complete its first anniversary.

British Intelligence has explained that the proportion of deaths compared to the number of injuries is high "by modern standards", a fact that it largely attributes to the "rudimentary" medical assistance received by troops who suffer damage in the areas of combat.

Within the Wagner Group, a Kremlin-friendly mercenary network that has based much of its recruiting power on recruiting prisoners, the casualty rate is also high. "They have probably registered a casualty rate of up to 50 percent," the UK experts have pointed out.
