They urge the Department of Justice to rule on whether or not Trump has presidential immunity

MADRID, 21 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

An appeals court has asked the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday to clarify whether or not former President Donald Trump has absolute presidential immunity from the lawsuits imposed against him after his alleged participation in the assault on the Capitol on January 6 of 2021.

The DOJ is expected to respond in mid-January, and this will be the first time the department has ruled on the limits of presidential immunity regarding the attack on the US Capitol.

This petition is the latest in several disputes in which the US Government Department of Justice has had to consider how far Trump's legal protection goes, according to CNN.

In this context, the special commission of the House of Representatives that is investigating the assault on the Capitol unanimously approved this Monday to request the imputation of former President Donald Trump for four crimes: inciting or aiding an insurrection, obstruction of an official procedure of Congress, conspiracy to deceive the State and conspiracy to give false testimony.

The executive summary of the commission's report read this Monday describes in detail how Trump tried to subdue, pressure or cajole anyone who did not give in to his attempt to prevent his defeat in the presidential election despite knowing that many of these maneuvers were illegal. for what they consider that he is ultimately responsible for the "insurrection" with his lies to public opinion.
