The United States authorities have assured this Monday that the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to suspend his participation in the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) has not yet been officially notified.

According to Mallory Stewart, Undersecretary of the US Office of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, the US side is still receiving notifications under this agreement.

Therefore, from Washington they consider that Putin's decision to disassociate himself from the START treaty has not yet been made official, although they consider that once said suspension has been formalized, the periodic reports shared by the Russian side will "cease".

Stewart has recognized the seriousness of the measure adopted last week by Putin, although he has shown some hope that Moscow will respect the limitations on the number of nuclear weapons, according to CNN.

President Putin announced last Tuesday the suspension of the nuclear weapons treaty signed with Washington, clarifying that it is not an "abandonment" of the agreement and alleging that the country "must be prepared to carry out nuclear tests if the United States carries them out." first".
